Basically, emotional intelligence is the ability or capacity to be aware of your and other’s emotions and how you express it over an incident or event. It is, in general, said to comprise of three skills: emotional awareness; the ability to exploit emotions and apply them to problem-solving objectives; and the capacity to control emotions, which includes adapting your own emotions and cheering up or calming down other people.

A student must know to unlock the emotional genius in himself by getting a clear knowledge about various factors of emotional intelligence. This will not only develop his thinking process but will also advance his learning skills.

It is important for a student to understand his own emotions which is the foundation of emotional intelligence. Understanding is the core element of the emotional process.  In order for students to be capable to center on their academic tasks, they have to be able to see where their emotions even lie. Sometimes, students can’t realize the actual meaning of what they feel and the purpose of their feelings thus, in the result, can’t even judge where and how their actions are manipulated. It, therefore, takes many instances and observations to take apart the sentiments and to learn to make logic of what one is feeling, particularly during the young days when sentimental lives are especially difficult.

All other emotional intelligence factors are based on the core idea of understanding. It is more important to know the aspects of feelings in order to rightly stepping into the emotional growth, which does not only helps in the development and behavioral majors but also improves the academic results. Students must be capable enough to learn that feelings are not permanent, they are temporary, therefore, it is better to observe your deeds and make efforts to improve them.

Understanding leads to the management of emotions. A student must be skilled in achieving the perceptive of his feelings and to control his feelings, accordingly.  Generally, management of emotions is highly based on the self-control, in which a student becomes skilled to delay their own indulgence in support of their future achievement. Management of emotions is helpful in attaining success in the classroom as well. Here, students gain knowledge to network practically with the academic environment while focusing on learning.

One can simply seek pleasure as well as the success by simply understanding other’s emotions or empathy. Understanding one’s emotions help in learning the concepts of other educational domains, such as history, art, culture, science, music, literature etc. A student can imply this factor by first letting himself know what others feel, the reason behind their behavior and finally the solution to their behavior which can either be helpful or disadvantageous in challenging solutions.

A relationship in an academic environment is based on various other factors. Once a student develops the skill of understanding other’s emotions, he then requires guiding himself into the positive relationships with people and even himself. Trust is a vital element of a strong relationship, as it permits students to see where they can progress without becoming self-critical or self-protective. Trust cultivates even and productive relationships with faculty and other fellows. Emotional components are the as important for the current academic environment, and the part of relationships should be valued when creating the course of actions within the institute’s environment.
